1954, Loxahatchee River, Florida: Father and Daughter See Swimming Bigfoot

On a canoe trip along the Loxahatchee River, Alan Smith and his twelve year old daughter Jenny-Mae Smith saw a lot of wild creatures. Jenny-Mae had seen nearly twenty two dragonflies, while Alan kept pointing to various types of fish he saw in the dark river waters.

As the canoe slowly floated along, the pair were chatting about the lack of clouds in the sky, when Jenny-Mae noticed a large dark mass in the middle of the river. At first, Alan thought it was a tree or maybe a sandbar or group of rocks.

As the canoe headed straight for it, Alan tried to steer to the side. Heading first left, then right, but the dark mass appeared to follow the canoe’s heading. It was as if the mass was purposefully getting in the way.

Jenny-Mae’s gasp startled her father. She pointed at the mass and shouted, “Its a bear!”

Only it was no bear swimming in that Florida River. It was a Bigfoot.

As the canoe got within arm’s length of the monster, it dove under the water. Emerging on the the other side of the canoe with a large splash. Alan paddled furiously to get away from the creature. Who seemed to be laughing at the trick it played on the panicked people in the canoe.

Fisherman Gordon Marash was walking to his favorite fishing site before dawn. He stopped to adjust the dial on his small transistor radio when he saw a bright light emerge from the sky. It appeared from behind a group of dark clouds. It started to descend.

Curious, Marash ran toward the descending light. After a few yards, he stopped in his tracks. In front of him maybe 100 yards, was a circle of torches. Marash feared he stumbled upon some criminal enterprise. But was unable to quell his curiosity, so he crept closer to get a better look.

Marash became horrified by what he saw. Standing in a large circle were a group of 8 to 10 Bigfoot. Most of them were holding crude torches, while others stood with their heads turned skyward. All were humming or moaning.

The light in the sky appeared over the group. A spotlight clanged on illuminating the circle of gray and black and red ape creatures with large feet and yellow glowing eyes. Gently each Bigfoot was lifted into the air and taken into the silver saucer in the sky.

Marash felt trapped, like he was in a nightmare, unable to move or even breathe. Paralyzed he watched as all the Bigfoot were taken into the saucer. Then the saucer hovered, spinning faster and faster, before zipping off into the sky.

To this day, Marash is uncertain what he saw was real or if it was a bad dream.

1999, Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida: Trucker Sideswipes Bigfoot

Trucker Jerry Trilling was driving his cab through Ochopee, Florida on his way home. He admitted he drank a bit that night and probably didn’t turn on his headlights, but that was no cause of what happened.

The road is straight along the swamp and Trilling drove it many, many times. In addition, there is never anyone on the road after midnight. Or at least not when Trilling drove it before. This night though, Trilling sped along paying close attention to his speed. Suddenly, he heard a ‘thurnk’ as he felt his cab hit something in the road.

Trilling slammed on the breaks thinking the worst. When he jumped out of the cab, he saw a man down on all fours about fifty feet behind him. Trilling called out to the man, who turned to look at him. It was then that Trilling realized that it was no man he had hit with his truck.

The creature’s face was more ape than man, and it was covered in fur. As it rose to its full height, Trilling was astounded to see it was well over ten feet tall. Trilling slowly backed toward his cab, keeping an eye on the monster in the road.

Just as Trilling climbed back into his cab, the Bigfoot bent over and let out a horrible scream, like a woman’s only higher and more agonized. Trilling jumped into the cab and slammed the door. He peeled out and saw that the Bigfoot chased him for about a quarter mile before suddenly disappearing.

Trilling told his trucker buddies about his encounter. Many of them were well acquainted with that creature having had similar encounters themselves along that same stretch of road.

1967, Waccasassa Bay Preserve, Florida: Bigfoot Witnessed Eating Bones

Calvin Bothers was driving near Waccasassa Bay Preserve when he pulled off the road to relieve himself.  He walked about 50 yards from his pickup to do his business behind a tree, keeping an eye on the road.  Just as he finished with his duty, he heard something that caught his attention.

The noises were coming from farther off the road.  The noises were a cross between a cow chomping its cud, a pig rooting, and a dog gnawing on a rawhide.  Thinking that he was about to see some wild boar or other large creature, Bothers sneaked toward the noises’ location.

Just as he leaned around a big tree, he gasped loudly.  Sitting on a broken stump just a few feet away from him was a large Bigfoot biting large bones in half.  Bothers recalled the terrible stink of the creature more than any concern for his personal well being.

Bothers watched the monster gobble a few thick white bones, before he felt he was going to vomit from the powerful odor.  Bothers carefully turned around and quietly made his way back up the hill toward the road.

Later, when Bothers returned with his rifle and his friend Kevin Duncan, they found no evidence of any creature or boney meal.

While walking around Duck Puddles Lake, Omar  Stamatoyannopoulos sees a deep depression in the grass.

“It were deep.  Broke right through the straw.  And the heel print were clear.  As was three of the toes.  Musta been over 900 pounds to make a print like that.  Never seen nothing like it before,”  Stamatoyannopoulos reported.

He enlisted the help of his neighbor’s son to create a plaster casting of the impression, “Georgie Wall’s boy were real good at making them things look good.  Georgie Wall’s boy say it look just like them other Bigfoot prints he done collect from all over the area.  Real active hikers, them things, I guess.”

2006, Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve: Bigfoot Hoaxers Encounter Real Bigfoot

High School Seniors Anthony Carrizales, Mary Crate, and Calvin Hayden had found an old, beat up gorllia costume at a local thrift store.  Without thinking they pulled their resources and bought it.  A few days later, Carrizales came up with the idea of creating a Bigfoot hoax.  The idea was simple enough, the trio would go into the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve, Carrizales would put the gorilla suit on.

After some very poor attempts to film Carrizales walking through the trees, Crate came up with the idea that Carrizales should run across the road as sight seers drove past.  While they did get some good footage of cars stopping or backing up to investigate, the teens did not capture very good footage.

They were just about to give up for the afternoon, when Hayden saw a “creature that looked like four football players squished together” walking in the swamp.  Hayden immediately tried to zoom in on the monster, while you can hear Carrizales and Crate expressing their surprise.  The footage of the real Bigfoot was not at all clear and came under intense scrutiny, since the teens admitted they were out there trying to create a hoax.

“But this isn’t a hoax,” pleaded Carrizales, “this is the real deal. Bigfoot!”

1957, Ponce de Leon Springs, Florida: Naked Skunk Ape Scares Bathing Family

1957, Ponce de Leon Springs, Florida: Naked Skunk Ape Scares Bathing Family

Leroy Flecker and his wife Helen had a yearly tradition of taking their family to Ponce de Leon Springs when the kids got of school for the summer.

This particular trip just did not feel right to Helen, her eldest daughter Anna, remembered, “Mom just felt that something was off. First of all, there were no other people around.  At first we thought this was great. We had the whole place to ourselves.  Us kids, we didn’t notice a thing, really, we were just too excited to be on vacation.  Plus my brothers loved playing in the creek.”

It was probably just after noon, that the family first noticed the strange creature that was sitting in a tree on the far bank.  “My brother Jim had the bright idea to throw rocks at it. This made my father very mad, since you could really hurt someone with a rock. If it hit them you know. And my dad did not like the idea of having to apologize to anyone on us kids’ behalf. So he starts yelling at Jim to get out of the water and stop throwing rocks. “

“That is when my littler brother Brian started crying that the monster in the trees did not have any clothes on.  This was very scandalous to Brian since he loved being naked himself and some of his worst tantrums involved putting on clothes.”

“My father just went nuts when he saw what us kids were all pointing at.  He started yelling at us to get out of the water as quickly as we could.  He really was frantic.  I do not think I ever saw him turn beet red like that.  Later he explained to us that he was deadly frightened that that naked ape looking creature would do something ghastly to us kids.”

“Well, once we all got out of the water. My little brother Phil only after my dad threatened to beat him raw with a belt.  My dad pushed all us kids into the back of the car, still dripping wet and leaving Jim’s shoes behind.  Which made Jim cry, until I reminded him that shoes were clothes.  And dad just hauled ass out of there.”

“It was not until a couple years later that all us kids put two and two together and figured out that what dad was so scared of was one of them Bigfoot Skunk things.  I think dad was nervous because it was naked as a jay bird.  And those monsters are supposed to be hairy.”
