Mark Ketting pulled his car over to do some impromptu bird watching. Ketting got out of his car and walked a fifty feet into the woods. He was scanning the trees with his binoculars, when something rushed him. It bumped into him and nearly knocked him over.

Ketting started to angrily react, when he got a good look at the beast that slammed into him. Ketting recognized at once that he had been rushed by a Bigfoot. Ketting drew his pistol and managed to get off a few shots at the Bigfoot that was racing away.

Ketting remains convinced that his wounded the beast, but there was no evidence of blood anywhere in the area.

1944, Morin Lumber Company, Montana: Bigfoot Rolls Logs into Workshed

Nightwatch man, Bruce Halfer, heard a commotion up on the ridge above his little workshed. The workshed is where he sat between walking his round around the Morin Lumber yard.

Halfer went out and shone his flashlight up the ridge where he heard the noises. He saw a dark figure on the ridge, three times the size of any of the men who worked at the lumber yard. And so dark that the figure seemed to absorb the light from his flashlight.

Halfer heard the sharp crack of a tree breaking, then heard the distinct sound of a log rolling down the gravel hill. Half did not hesitate, he ran in the opposite direction as fast as he could a several large logs smashed into his night guard workshed. It was completely demolished.

The next morning, in clear day light, Halfer and his boss investigated the site where the logs tumbled from and they found large bare footprints all over the area. Halfer was convinced he had been attacked by a Bigfoot.

1947, Woods Canyon Lake, Arizona: Cub Scout Troop Leader Sees Bigfoot

Daniel Davis was leading a weekend camp out with his church’s Cub Scout troop. Davis claims he saw a Bigfoot creeping around the lake edges.

Davis described the creature as “Incredible. It was very tall, with large deep set eyes spaced far apart. It had massive arms and thick thighs. It had thin white hair that covered its whole body and was thickly matted around the shoulders and back. It moved slowly and did not seem to have a care in the world.”

Davis did not tell any of the Cub Scouts, at the time he saw the Bigfoot. He was worried about starting a panic among the children. But when Davis returned home, he told everyone he knew. Many did believe him and accompanied him back to the spot several times over the next few years. But the creature was never seen again.

1940, Rogue River National Forest, Oregon: Bigfoot Splashing in Waterfall

While collecting rock samples from a creek bed near a waterfall in the Rogue River Forest, Doug Porter was startled by a loud splash.

When he looked up the river, he saw a large hairy man sitting under the waterfall, splashing and growling with glee. Porter thought it was some sort of hobo or maybe a mountain man who came to wash himself. But on closer examination, he saw that the man was clearly a beast.

It was totally naked and completely covered in a fine dark hair, its facial features were more like an ape than a man, and its arms were much too muscular for a normal human. Porter saw its gigantic feet poking out of the stream and at once realized he was looking straight at a real live Bigfoot.

Since Porter was not a Bigfoot hunter, he stood up and ran as fast as he could out of there. He did not even return to collect his geology equipment.

1941, Happy Jack Logging Camp, Arizona: Bear Chased by Bigfoot

Lumberjacks Ezra Stretchan and Jack Fischer returned to their cabin at Happy Jack camp. They were getting ready for dinner, Stretchan was outside smoking a cigarette when he called for Fischer to come outside as quickly as possible.

The annoyed Fischer stuck his head out of the cabin door to see what Stretchan was so riled up about. Fischer saw one of the largest black bears he ever laid on upon running full tilt down the side of the hill.

Just as Stretchan was about to speculate on what scared that bear off, the two loggers saw a “huge, red gorilla-like giant crash through the cedars.” The monster was over 15 feet tall, with powerful rippling muscles and feet that defied all science.

The two loggers stood petrified as the creature lumbered down the side of the hill, growling and grunting as it slowly chased after the running bear.

While neither Stretchan nor Fischer talked about what they saw until years later, Fischer admitted that the two went out and bought shotguns to keep in their cabin with their next paychecks.

1948, Upper Crater Lake, Wyoming: Bigfoot Sunning on Phantom Ship Island

William Drexler’s campsite overlooked Phantom Ship Island. He had just finished his sasauge and egg breakfast and was smoking his morning pipe, just looking out over Crater Lake. That is when he noticed something moving on Phantom Ship Island.

Drexler got out his binoculars. It took him a minute or two before he was able to get a good bead on the moving figure. What Drexler saw was a brownish grey Bigfoot, obviously soaking wet, stretching out on some rocks near the water’s edge. The creature was luxuriated. Drexler watched the creature for awhile lounge in the sun. Then after a bit the Bigfoot climbed to the other side of the island and Drexler lost sight of it.

Drexler told his friends about the encounter, but his friends convinced him that Bigfoot was a terrible swimmer and he must be mistaken about what he saw. To this day, Drexler remains confused about the whole scene.

1945, Kabetogama State Forest, Minnesota: Man Disappears Hunting Bigfoot

After several weeks where dogs went missing, trash bins ransacked, and other strange happenings in Kabetogama, John Simon declared that the township had been invaded by a Bigfoot. As evidence he produced several plaster casts of large apelike foot impressions, a tangle of brownish yellow hair, and photographs of powerful claw marks.

His fellow residents dismissed all this as the rantings of a crank. Simon claimed to see UFOs in the skies at least once a month, claimed to have been a spy during the war and in possessions of a serum that gave him super-health.

When Simon packed up enough camping supplies to last him several months, announced he was off to track the Bigfoot,  no one paid much attention either. Simon was gone over six months before his friends and relations started to worry. A search party was organized. They scoured the State Forest for months. The State Police even got involved for a few weeks, organizing hundreds of volunteers and even bringing in a helicopter.

No trace was ever found of John Simon. But people did notice the strange doings stopped just after he left to hunt the Bigfoot.

1946, Leaf River, Illinois: Fisherman Interrupted by Bathing Bigfoot

Tom Griffin was fishing early in the morning.  While he was eating the cheese sandwich he made for his lunch, he heard some very violent splashing coming from a few hundred yards away, down river.  Thinking maybe a bear or maybe some deer were crossing the river, he continued on with his lunch.

When the splashing got closer, Griffin became more alarmed.  If not for his safety, then for the integrity of his fishing lines.  He stood up and walked a little way down stream, keeping an eye on his belongings.  He heard a low muttering growl, then saw an eight foot tall monster splashing around in the middle of the river.

Griffin stood there, shocked.  Could that really be a Bigfoot in the middle of the river?  And could it really be washing itself like a bathing human?  Griffin was not sure he was willing to find out.  He turned right around and ran out of the woods.  A few hours later he returned with a few friends to gather up his fishing rods and cooler.

He never told anyone about the bathing Bigfoot, though he did write it down in the front of his family bible.  The story was found after Griffin’s death by his daughter, who has no reason to discount her father, since he was a very honest man.

1949, Adler Creek, Sandy, Oregon: Charles McBride Witnesses a Bigfoot Funeral

While fishing, Charles McBride saw a group of what looked like three bears walking upright move through the forest.  Leaving his kit behind, McBride followed the bear creatures.

After several stops, where the creatures leaned against trees and appeared to weep, the procession stopped at a particularally shallow spot in the river.  The three creatures waded into the Creek.  McBride, then, saw that two of the creatures were carrying a fourth creature.

Two of the Bigfoot washed their dead friend in the creek, smoothing out its fur.  Meanwhile, the third started digging a deep hole with his massive hands.  The three gently lowered the body of their friend into the grave and howled together.  McBride thought he heard a sad melody to the beast’s dirge.

All three Bigfoot filled in the hole.  The smallest of the three gathered up some smooth stones and little rocks, which were carefully arranged on the grave.  Once this ritual was completed, all three Bigfoot ran off in different directions.

Later when McBride tried to return to the grave site, he could not find the rocks nor any evidence of recent digging.  As a result, his story remains widely dismissed as the fantasy of a sun drunk fisherman.
