TODAY IN BIGFOOT HISTORY! In 1902 Newbern in Hale County Alabama hosted a week long celebration of the picnic basket. Several actives were arranged including a pie eating contest and a competitive game of horseshoes. On March 16, which was a Sunday, a large final picnic was held along the creek, Sam Bailey and his friend James Kemp report seeing a “large black ape over 7 feet tall and smelling of vinegar and onions.” The creature charged their blanket while screaming and waving its arms. It kicked a hole in their picnic basket, before running off with their flannel blanket which it used as a cape. Other picnickers heard shrieks and calls for help, but few others claim to have seen the beast.
